It's been a little while...

Hi. It's been a little while since I've posted, I know.

A lot has happened in my life, though! I got married, got a job doing graphic design for Iowa State University and am now enjoying the married life with my husband. :]

So, here's a brief synopsis of events lol:

1.) I got engaged!

—to the amazing guy             I was dating

(yep, this goofball) :]

**********************************************************************************

2.) Then, what's crazier:
       we got married!
     March 17, 2012.          :)

      It's no bd.
(I don't want to bore you with            the mushy details...)

...but we had an amazing                            photographer,
our friend Matthew Smith,                who takes photos for
               The Beautiful Voyage
               (check out their website here)

      ...AND it was really fun!

I also got to design our wedding "save-the-dates," invitations, programs, favors and some signage, among other things. How could I resist? It was my wedding, my one opportunity to design everything exactly the way that I wanted. In between all the chaos and craziness of planning a wedding, I definitely had wayy too much fun designing things. :)

RSVP card ~classsy lol.

Programs!! So much fun.

Cootie catcher wedding favors? Yes, please. :]

...and now we are happily married and able to goof off on a daily basis, which is the important thing...

Yep. We're obviously meant for each other.

3.) In other news, my younger brother graduated from high school...
Wait, what!??
(I must be getting old...I won't tell you how old, but all year I've been singing "What's my age again? What's my age again?" -Blink 182, of course)

(more to come about this in my next post... :])

Joining the fight.

One in every four women will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime.

This is just one of many reasons why I chose to design a series of posters that seek to both raise awareness and help educate about the issue of domestic abuse.

I designed these posters during my last semester at Iowa State. However, I recently have had the opportunity to display them in the counseling department of the Chariton Family Medical Center (located in Chariton, Iowa, where my family lives! :] ) Many therapists in this department focus on counseling women who have been victims (or are still victims) of abuse, so the department felt that my posters would be appropriate to hang in their office. I gladly obliged! :] I have always hoped to actually help make a difference through various projects that I design.

I was able to visit the hospital recently and took some photos of my work on the wall. These posters can also be viewed on my portfolio website, at  http://cargocollective.com/meghann...

Mother's Day book

So, this would have been posted earlier if I had a blog yet. :]

I finished it about a week ago, though. It's a book I designed for mom as a Mother's Day gift. Projects are even more fun when I can come up with my own idea for them and give them to someone I love. I made an accordian-fold book with pictures of our family in it from different memorable vacations, birthdays and even my graduation. It was especially fun to make this book because I used funny quotes that different people in my family always say (and my family is pretty weird/goofy/hilarious and ridiculous sometimes ;] ).

A few of the quotes in this book include:

"You know, like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills...(ping-pong
skills, or enter any other skills that my brother feels he acquires :] )...Girls only want
     boyfriends who have great skills."

<< This quote must be said in a "Napoleon Dynamite" voice, of course, and is frequently quoted by my
      younger brother, Isaac.

"I hate babies. They always give me dirty looks. I swear that baby was giving me the
     meanest dirty look just now."

<< Also Isaac, and yes, he really says and thinks this haha

"Well, this is just 'toe' much fun!" (also "It's 'China' fun")

<< My dad just happens to be the master of all sort of puns. Some may think it's funny...or "punny" I guess
lol, orrrrr they just pretend to... ;-]

Basically, I love my family, even though we all can be a little odd sometimes (or most times).

Hi.

I started this blog so I can post about new design work that I'm doing and other projects I have taken on since graduation. :] It's also another fun way to keep in touch with people and keep them updated!
